Regularly changing passwords is one of the rules for safe working with a computer, which stores information essential for you that is of interest and potential ill-wishers. The procedure for changing the password itself is not particularly difficult if the user has sufficient rights to carry out this operation and knows where to look for the corresponding function.

Instructions

Step 1

Use Task Manager to change your own password. It can be started by pressing the key combination ctrl + alt="Image" + delete or ctrl + shift + esc. You can also do this with the mouse - right-click on the free space on the taskbar and select the "Task Manager" item in the pop-up context menu.

Step 2

Find the "Change password" command in the task manager window and click on it. As a result, an additional window will open in which you will need to enter your current password, and then type the new password twice and press the "OK" button.

Step 3

If you need to set a new password not for your own account, but for someone from other users of the system, then start by logging in with administrator rights - only he can change the passwords of other accounts.

Step 4

Open the program launch dialog - select the "Run" item in the main menu on the "Start" button. If your version of the operating system does not have such an item in the menu, then use the key combination win + r.

Step 5

Enter the command control userpasswords2. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can use the shorter command netplwiz. Click on the "OK" button or press enter and the system will launch the user account management utility.

Step 6

Select in the general list the account of the user whose password you want to change and click the "Change password" button. In the window that opens, enter the new password twice and click the "OK" button, and then close the account control panel.

Step 7

If you need to change the password that is set in the BIOS of your computer, then select the operation of restarting the computer in the main menu on the Start button. When a new boot cycle begins, wait for the prompt to press the delete key to enter the BIOS setup panel, or determine the right moment by blinking the LEDs on the keyboard. It is possible that your BIOS version uses a different key for this command (f1, f2, f10, etc.). Find the BIOS Setting Password command in the settings panel and activate it. The BIOS will require you to enter a password, and then confirm it - do this, and then exit the settings panel with saving the changes made (Save and Exit Setup command).
