The appearance of the mouse pointer depends on the scheme currently used by the operating system's graphical interface. This scheme contains a set of design options for the index and can be changed by the user through the corresponding OS component. Using the same component, you can selectively change individual pointers included in the set of the current scheme.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are using Windows 7, the shortest path to the mouse pointer settings is through the search box in the main menu of the system. Press the Win key to expand this menu, and in the window with the text "Find programs and files" enter the word "mouse". The system will display a list of almost two dozen lines, among which there will be a link "Change the appearance of the mouse pointer" - click on it.
Step 2
In other versions of Windows, after opening the main menu by pressing the Win key or clicking the "Start" button, find the link to launch the Control Panel. With the Panel open, go to the section titled "Appearance and Themes" and click the "Mouse Pointers" link in the left frame. As a result of the actions described in this and the previous steps, the Pointers tab of the Mouse Properties window will open.
Step 3
Change the entire set of mouse pointers that the operating system uses in different situations by selecting one of the options in the "Scheme" drop-down list. Then press the OK button and the procedure will be completed.
Step 4
Select the desired line from the Customize list if you only want to change one or more of the pointers used by the current Windows GUI skin. Then click the Browse button, select the file containing the index you want, and click the Open button. Repeat this procedure for mouse pointers in other lines of the list as needed, and then click OK.
Step 5
If you have your own set of mouse pointers that are not included in the list of default schemes, then start by copying the files to the desired folder. Windows stores cursors in the Cursors directory, which is placed in the Windows folder on the system drive - create an additional folder for new cursors in it and copy the added files there. Then follow the procedure described in the previous step.
