Mirroring an object can often produce very interesting effects. Usually, to get a mirror image, it is enough to press just one button (H or V). However, making a mirror image and placing it next to the original is a little more difficult.

Step 1
Open the image in Photoshop. First of all, the image must be properly prepared. From that part of it, from which it is supposed to place the reflecting surface, you need to remove all unnecessary, including the background. In the simplest case, it is convenient to do this using the Rectangular Selection tool (key M). To do this, select the extra area and press the Del key.
For more complex cases, where the border of the image has intricate details, such as lace, use other tools such as Lasso, Magic Wand, and Eraser.

After the image is ready for work, you need to provide more space on the canvas to accommodate the reflection. To do this, select the Crop tool (C key) and select the entire canvas with it. Just move your cursor to the upper left corner, and drag while holding the left mouse button to the opposite lower right corner of the canvas. After these manipulations, you will be able to stretch the canvas to the required size. Special markers will appear around the canvas, and you can drag them to resize it. Press the Enter key to accept the changes.
Step 3
Now you can start directly creating the reflection. Duplicate the layer. In the "Layer" menu choose "Duplicate Layer" and confirm the selection. This new layer will become a reflection later.
Step 4
Since the reflection is always inverted, the image must be flipped: either vertically or horizontally, depending on where the reflective surface is placed. The easiest way to do this is to select "Transform" and "Flip Vertical" from the "Edit" menu.
Step 5
Now the reflected layer needs to be moved. In this case, you need to move it so that it is directly below the original image. Keep in mind to leave some space between the original image and its reflection. If you don't, the result will look unnatural.
Step 6
Next, create a layer mask. Click on the button marked with a red circle. Select the Fill tool, adjust the opacity with the slider and hold down the left mouse button + Shift and drag up. You may not guess right the first time, and the result will not suit you. Then undo the last action and try again. Find the best option that suits you.
Step 7
To top it off, you can try playing with the transparency settings. Once you're done, save your image.
