The Windows XP operating system is built in such a way that you can work in it both in graphical mode using shell windows (for example, "Windows Explorer"), and in the command line. In the latter case, you need to know a specific set of commands.
Necessary
Operating system Windows XP
Instructions
Step 1
The command line is a program by means of which the computer user communicates with the sections of the operating system. Outwardly, the window of this program looks like a dos-window, so many users try not to deal with it. Indeed, editing settings in text mode is quite dangerous, especially for a beginner.
Step 2
Since one task can be performed in several different ways in operating systems of the Windows family, it is worth considering each of the currently existing ones. First of all, try running the command line through the Run applet. To do this, click the "Start" menu and select the above-voiced applet. In an empty field, enter the command cmd and press the Enter key or the "OK" button. You will see the "Command Line" program window.
Step 3
Another way to launch this utility is to open a shortcut from the Start menu. To do this, click the "Start" menu, left-click on the "All Programs" line (or "Programs" in the classic menu style), open the "Accessories" section and select the "Command Prompt" shortcut. If desired, this shortcut can be displayed on the desktop or placed in the quick Start menu.
Step 4
To create a shortcut on your desktop, right-click on the desired icon from the Start menu, select Send to and select Desktop. To copy a shortcut from the "Standard" section to the general quick access menu, open the context menu and select the "Pin to Start" command.
Step 5
Because this program is launched by opening an executable file, it is quite possible to find this file in the system directory. To do this, open the "My Computer" window and navigate to the system drive. Next, open the Windows system folder (may have a different name), then the System 32 folder and double-click on the cmd.exe file. For a faster launch, just copy the following line into the address bar of the open Windows Explorer window (C: WINDOWSsystem32cmd.exe) and press the Enter key.
