Increasing the monitor screen resolution improves the legibility of graphics and text on the computer display, and increases the available space on the desktop and in application windows. However, at the same time, small details become less distinguishable, which does not have a very good effect on vision and fatigue during prolonged use of the computer. Windows OS allows you to choose the optimal resolution settings yourself.
Instructions
Step 1
Use the window to change screen properties to change the monitor resolution. By right-clicking on the desktop space free of shortcuts and windows, you can bring up the context menu and open this window for changing screen settings by selecting the "Properties" item. Screen resolution controls are located on the "Options" tab. There is another way to get to this tab - through the "Control Panel". It is launched by selecting the item of the same name in the main menu (on the "Start" button). In the control panel, click on the "Appearance and Themes" link and in the list under the "Select a task" heading click on "Change screen resolution".
Step 2
Select the desired resolution value by left-clicking the slider located in the lower left corner of the Options tab. Then press the "OK" or "Apply" button and the screen resolution will be changed for 15 seconds. If during this time you do not confirm your choice by pressing the "Yes" button, the change of permission will be canceled. In this way, you can visually select the most optimal screen resolution value.
Step 3
The described method is used in Windows XP, and in Windows Vista and Windows 7 there are minor changes in this procedure. In them, you also need to right-click on the free space of the desktop, and in the context menu there is an item "Screen resolution", which you need to select. Instead of a horizontal slider, a vertical slider is used here to select the resolution value. It is placed in the drop-down list of the button labeled "Resolution". After selecting the desired value, click the "Apply" button.
Step 4
If the list of available screen resolutions contains only a few minimum values, then this means that the OS was unable to recognize the video card installed in your computer. In such cases, the system uses the default driver, which may not always provide acceptable image quality. It is best to replace it using the program from the installation disc of your video card.
