Modern desktop processors have dozens, if not hundreds, of models. Therefore, it is quite easy to get confused among the variety of processors. If you are unable to remove the processor from the system unit and see its markings, there are several ways to find out the number of cores and other characteristics.

Instructions
Step 1
Take the documentation from your computer. A warranty card or instruction will do - any document that contains a complete list of computer components. Look for the item where the processor is recorded. If the processor is AMD, then its number of cores is judged by the combination of the X symbol and the number. For example, X2 means that the processor is dual-core. If the processor is Intel, then the number of cores is indicated by the words Core 2 Duo, Dual (dual-core), Quad (quad-core), as well as the number after the letter i.
Step 2
Go to the motherboard BIOS, Standard CMOS Features or Advanced BIOS Features (depending on the BIOS version). It indicates the processor model, its frequency, cache size, and so on. You can fully view all the information of interest in this system.
Step 3
Run the DirectX utility (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> press Enter). On the main tab of the program, the full name of the processor will be indicated in the corresponding line. Go to "Device Manager". Find the item related to the processor in the list of components and expand the label. The number of processor cores corresponds to the number of lines with its name.
Step 4
Launch "Device Manager" (right-click on the "Taskbar" -> launch "Task Manager"). On the "Performance" tab, count the number of identical fields - it will indicate the number of processor cores. The processor is the central link of the computer. Processor specifications are important indicators of the overall performance of your computer. However, it should be borne in mind that a computer consists of a whole set of components, and all of them affect its performance, so it cannot be fully said that the processor is the most important component of a computer.
