To change the format of video files on a computer, various specialized applications are used - converters. They allow you to convert a file with the specified parameters of the image size and audio quality. Conversion makes it possible to play the desired video on any modern device.
Installation
When choosing a program for converting files, you should pay attention to the number of formats that it supports. Most of the applications support AVI, WMV, MKV and MP4. Converting less common video files is also possible with the help of specialized software from the developers.

Programs differ in the number of available conversion options and overall functionality.
Conversion
Go to the developer's site of the selected application and download the file for installation on your computer. Run the resulting installer and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the procedure. After unpacking the program files and the corresponding notification appears, check the box next to the "Run the program" item. You can also open the application using the automatically generated desktop shortcut.
In the program window, specify the path to the converted file. Some programs also offer step-by-step instructions for converting. To specify the path to the desired file, click the Browse button in the appropriate section. You can also use the File - Open menu.
Among the presets, select the parameters of the format to which you want to convert the video. Also, some applications offer a simplified interface for converting, using which you just need to click on the To MP4 (AVI, WMV, 3GP, etc.) button to start the conversion process.
You can find additional format settings in the Settings, Convert and Service menus. If necessary, click "OK" to start converting. You may also need to specify the directory in which the desired file will be saved. In the future, you can change this folder in the program window or through the appropriate section of the settings.
Wait until the end of the conversion and the corresponding notification appears on the screen. Go to the folder where you saved the converted file and check the result. If the conversion was successful, you can play the final video. If you have problems with the launch of the video, try to re-convert or use an alternative program.
