Performing the operation of opening ports in manual mode in the Windows operating system may be required if it is necessary to provide Internet access to some applications. Usually this procedure is of interest to participants in multiplayer games.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the context menu of the "Network Neighborhood" operating element of the desktop by clicking the right mouse button to open the selected ports in manual mode and select the "Properties" item. Call the context menu of the used Internet connection by clicking the right mouse button and again select the "Properties" item.
Step 2
Use the "Advanced" tab in the dialog box that opens to open the "Options" dialog and select the "Add" option to initiate the operation of specifying the required port. Note that if the Options button is not displayed, this may mean that the firewall is inactive and that all existing ports are available.
Step 3
Type the definition of the port to open in the Description line for later identification and enter your computer's IP address in the Name field. Enter the value of the number of the port to be opened in the "Internal port" and "External port" fields and apply the checkbox to the field of the required protocol. Confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking OK or repeat this procedure for the next port to be opened (for Windows XP).
Step 4
Use the simplified procedure for opening the selected port provided by the Windows version 7. Expand the main menu of the system by clicking on the "Start" button and expand the "Control Panel" node.
Step 5
Enter the value "firewall" in the test box of the search bar and click the "Find" button to perform a scan. Expand the found link "Windows Firewall" and go to the "Advanced options" section on the left side of the dialog box that opens.
Step 6
Confirm that you are a computer administrator by entering the password in the appropriate field of the system prompt and expand the Inbound Rules group in the next Firewall with Advanced Security Configuration dialog box. Use the "Create Rule" option and follow the recommendations of the wizard's utility (for Windows 7).
