When you connect a device to your computer, the operating system starts detecting it. Operating systems starting with Windows XP have a Plug and Play function that automatically recognizes the connected device and installs system drivers for it. But there are times when, after connecting it, a notification appears that the connected device is unknown or not defined at all. Then you should try to connect it yourself.
Necessary
Computer with Windows OS (XP, Windows 7)
Instructions
Step 1
If the system device was not recognized, or after connecting it, no notification windows appeared, you should start the Plug and Play technology yourself. Click on the "My Computer" icon with the right mouse button, then select "Properties". If your operating system is Windows 7, in the same window select "Device Manager". If Windows XP, then first select the "Hardware" tab, and then - "Device Manager".
Step 2
The Device Manager window will appear. In the device manager, right-click on the topmost line. Select Update Hardware Configuration from the list of commands. The operating system will scan the computer for new connected hardware. If the equipment is detected, a dialog box will appear with the name of the equipment model. The installation of the system drivers will also begin. Upon completion, a window will appear with a notification that the device is ready for use.
Step 3
If you connected a device, and the system recognized it as unknown and issued a notification that the device is not working properly, the situation can be corrected in this way. It is suitable for those who have the Windows 7 operating system installed.
Step 4
Click "Start" and go to "Control Panel". Select By Category to display the Control Panel. Find the "Hardware and Sound" section and select "View devices and printers" there. A window will appear in which find the section titled "No data". Then, in this section, right-click on "Unknown device". Select "Properties", then - the "Hardware" tab. In this tab, click on the "Properties" option. Next, go to the "Driver" tab and click on "Update". Select "Automatic Search". Windows will automatically find and install the system driver, after which the device will be detected.
