Files downloaded from the Internet are often archived. The archive stores information in a compressed form, allowing you to save disk space or traffic when sent over the Internet. To unpack files with *.rar, *.zip extensions, you need an archiver program.
Necessary
Computer running Windows operating system, WinRar program
Instructions
Step 1
To unpack archive files using the WinRar graphical shell, you need to install the program distribution kit on your computer by running the Wrar400ru.exe executable file. (You can get the distribution kit on the official website of the program). Installation is straightforward.
Step 2
To open the archive file in the WinRar program window, double-click on the unpacked file, or drag the archive into the open WinRar program window or onto the WinRar icon. You can also run the program from the command line by specifying the name of the unpacked file as parameter C: Program FilesWinRARWinRaR.exe / full_name_your_file.
Step 3
The contents of the file will be displayed in the WinRar window. Highlight the folders or files you want to extract. This is done by clicking the mouse or pressing the Space bar. You can select a group of files by mask using the numeric keypad "+" and "-".
Step 4
Unpack the selected files by clicking the "Extract" button on the program menu bar, or by simultaneously pressing the keys alt="Image" and E. In the dialog box that opens, select the archive extraction path in the right window or enter it in the address bar. Information about the extraction process will be displayed in the statistics window.
Step 5
You can unpack *.msi files (installation packages) without third-party utilities using the Msiexec.exe installer built into the Windows operating system. Launch "Command Prompt" by finding it in the "Start - Programs - Accessories" menu. Enter the following instruction in the command prompt window: "MSIEXEC / a full_path_to_msi_file / qb TARGETDIR = full_path_to_folder_for_unpacked_data". All files contained in the *.msi file will be unpacked to the specified folder.
