Scan your system for viruses, preferably using an antivirus resident installed on your computer. There are, of course, web services that provide such a service. However, any of them for full-fledged work must obtain administrator rights in your OS in order to be able to install their active components into it. And sending commands with such broad rights over the network is no less dangerous than being the target of a virus attack.

Instructions

Step 1

The first step to scanning your system should be installing antivirus protection software. If it already exists on your system, skip this step, if not, select any of the antiviruses available on the Internet. Even if you choose the paid option, it will most likely have a free trial period of several weeks. This will be enough to scan the system for viruses. For example, you can install an antivirus named Avira or Kaspersky, Nod 32, Dr Web, Panda, etc.

Step 2

When the antivirus installation is complete, double-click the My Computer shortcut on your desktop, or press the WIN and E keys. This way you start Windows Explorer.

Step 3

In Explorer, select all the disks on your computer that you want to scan, and right-click on the selection. In the context menu that appears, there will be a command to scan for viruses. Each antivirus has a different wording, but the meaning is the same. For example, Avira calls this context menu item "Check selected files with AntiVir". Clicking this command will start a disk scan, which will take some time.

Step 4

The duration of the procedure is different depending on the total capacity of the scanned disks and the amount of information stored on them. During the scanning process, if something suspicious is detected, the antivirus will give a signal and take the actions specified in its settings. This action may require your confirmation. Upon completion of the operation, the program will present you with a report on the results.

Step 5

There is another option for scanning, without using Windows Explorer. If you double-click the antivirus icon in the tray of your desktop, then its control panel will open. It also has a command to start a system scan. For example, Avira has it on the panel page, which opens by default. The date of the last scan of the computer is indicated here, and next to it is the link "Check system". Clicking on this label starts the verification procedure.
