Almost all the operations that the user performs with the mouse when controlling a computer can be replaced with keyboard shortcuts or navigation keys. However, there are hundreds of such combinations, and memorizing them in case of an urgent need to do without a mouse is not the best solution. Fortunately, modern operating systems provide the ability to control the mouse pointer from the keyboard.

Instructions

Step 1

If your computer is running Windows 7 or Vista, press alt="Image" + Shift + NumLock hotkeys to enable keyboard cursor control. You will hear a beep, and then you can move the mouse pointer using the keys on the additional keyboard.

Step 2

On the buttons of the numeric keypad, in addition to numbers, there are also arrows that indicate the direction of movement of the cursor - be guided by them. Also, use the number keys 7 (left and up), 9 (right and up), 3 (right and down), 1 (left and down) to move the pointer diagonally. Instead of clicking the left mouse button, press the number 5 key.

Step 3

In the settings of this function, a very slow cursor movement speed is set by default. To change it and configure other settings, open the appropriate control panel applet. The easiest way to do this is when you enable keyboard control - when you press the key combination alt="Image" + Shift + NumLock, a dialog box appears on the screen in which you need to confirm your choice. It also contains a link with the text "Go to the Ease of Access Center to disable the keyboard shortcut" - use it to get to the desired settings. Without using a mouse, you can do this as follows: hold down the Shift key and, without releasing it, press Tab once. Then press the spacebar and the desired applet will appear on the screen.

Step 4

You can also open these settings from the main menu: press Win, type "uka", use the down arrow to move to the link "Control the pointer from the keyboard" in the list of search results and press Enter.

Step 5

Expand the window to full screen - press the combination alt="Image" + space, use the down arrow to move to the item "Expand" in the menu that opens and press Enter. Use the Shift and Tab keyboard shortcuts to navigate to the Fastest Speed setting in the applet window and move the pointer to the far right using the right arrow key. Then press the Tab key to move to the next setting - "Acceleration" - and do the same with it.

Step 6

Press Tab again and press the space bar in the next field to check the checkbox. This setting enables the acceleration or deceleration of the cursor movement when pressing the Ctrl and Shift keys.

Step 7

In the same way, moving through the points using the Tab (down) and Shift + Tab (up) keys, check the box (space key) in the "Enable mouse pointer control from the keyboard" checkbox. Then, tab down to the OK button and press it with the Enter key. Windows will think for a couple of seconds and close the applet, after which moving the mouse pointer using the keys on the additional keyboard will become quite fast.
