Many people think that in sleep, hibernation, or normal shutdown mode, the computer does not consume power. This is mistake. Let's consider all three states of the computer and the degree of power consumption in them.
Instructions
Step 1
Sleep is a mode in which many components of the computer are turned off, but not the RAM. She continues to consume energy. But starting the computer from this mode is the fastest of all three considered. But the computer consumes the maximum amount of energy in this mode - 3.5-4 watts.
Step 2
Hibernation is a more developed and deeper sleep pattern. All the contents of the memory are flushed to the hard drive, so that the memory is completely de-energized. Power is only required for Wake-on-USB, Wake-on-LAN functions. These features allow the computer to wake up from mouse movement or network activity. So you need to feed the USB ports (keep the voltage on them) and the network card. The computer consumes less than 2 W in this mode, but consumption can be reduced to almost zero by disabling the specified alarm functions in the bios. Most users wake up the computer with the power button anyway.
Step 3
Complete shutdown. It would seem that there is nothing to waste energy on, but open the case. Be sure to find a lit LED on the board or on the network card. There is also a small loss of energy in this mode.
