Instructions

Step 1

Determine the cause of the drive failure. Most often, a dvd drive fails due to increased friction in the disc loading mechanism, due to a ruptured belt drive and contamination of the laser lens. To repair the dvd drive, remove it from the system unit. To do this, remove the side panel by first unscrewing the two retaining screws. Then, disconnect all cables from the drive, unscrew the self-cutters holding it in the case of the system unit, and remove.

Step 2

Take a piece of thin wire or a thin needle. Find a round hole under the tray that receives discs. Insert the wire into it. The tray will automatically slide out. Pull out this tray until it stops. Then detach the front panel retainers. Pull the panel towards you. Take a screwdriver, unscrew the retaining bolts. Then remove the remaining drive panels.

Step 3

Take a thin brush. Use it to remove all dust from the drive mechanism. Then take a piece of clean cloth and use it to wipe off any remnants of the old grease. It also contains dust. Take silicone grease. Apply it to all moving parts of the drive mechanism. Inspect the belt drive. If it is intact and the belt is intact, then do not touch anything. If it is noticeable that it has worn out, then replace it with a new one.

Step 4

Find a laser lens. Take a special technical cloth and dust it off. Then, if necessary, to fix the dvd drive, adjust the laser current value. To do this, connect the power cable and ribbon cable to the drive, run it without the front panel. Pre-install a potentiometer on the laser carriage that will measure the current.

Step 5

Find the special screw on the panel. By turning it, you can increase or decrease the amount of current. Follow all changes through the Nero Speed Disc program. When the program detects that the discs are readable in the best way, fix the screw in the selected position. Assemble the drive and install it in the system unit.
