In the Microsoft Windows operating system, the user can customize the appearance of various components of the "Desktop" in accordance with their preferences. You can change not only the appearance of the icons, the size of the labels, but also the color of the "Taskbar" and the "Start" menu. To set up an eye-pleasing color scheme, there are a few steps to take.

Step 1
All the settings a user needs to change the color of the Start menu, Taskbar, or window titles are located in the Display Properties window. This dialog box can be invoked in several ways. First: right-click in any free space of the "Desktop". From the drop-down menu, select the "Properties" item by clicking on it with the left mouse button.

Alternatively, go to the Control Panel through the Start menu. In the "Design and Themes" category, select any of the assignments or left-click on the "Display" icon. If the "Control Panel" has a classic look, select the desired icon immediately. You can switch from the classic view to the category view and vice versa by clicking on the corresponding command line in the left part of the "Control Panel" window.
Step 3
In the "Display Properties" dialog box that opens, go to the "Themes" tab. The start menu color change will occur when you change the desktop theme. Use the drop-down menu in the "Theme" section to choose the option you like. If you want to install a custom theme, select the "Browse" item from the drop-down list and specify the directory where the theme you like is saved in.
Step 4
Go to the "Appearance" tab. In the "Windows and Buttons" section, select a color for the appearance of opened folders, application windows, "Taskbar" and the "Start" menu using the drop-down list. Some templates have different color schemes. To view them and select the one you need, use the drop-down list in the "Color Scheme" section.
Step 5
After making your choice, click on the "Apply" button for the new settings to take effect. Close the properties window by clicking the OK button or the X icon in the upper right corner of the window. If you change your mind about changing the color of the significant components, just click on the "Cancel" button.
