After installing the operating system, the desktop looks standard. It may seem boring and devoid of personality, so the developers have provided the ability to change the appearance of various elements. To replace icons on your computer, you need to take a few steps.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, you must make sure that the icons that you want to replace the standard ones with are saved on your computer. Collections of icons can either be downloaded from the Internet, or made on your own. In the second case, don't forget to convert them to.ico format.
Step 2
There are several ways to change the appearance of icons. There are programs (IconPackager, Auslogics Visual Styler) that allow you to replace all icons on your computer at once, build and install your own collections in a few mouse clicks, but if you do not want to install additional software, you can do it yourself.
Step 3
To replace the custom folder icon, move the cursor to the desired icon, right-click on it and select Properties from the drop-down menu. In the dialog box that opens, go to the "Settings" tab.
Step 4
In the "Folder Icons" group, click on the "Change Icon" button. Select a new icon from the available thumbnails in the additional window or click on the "Browse" button and specify the path to your own icon. For the new settings to take effect, click the OK button and the "Apply" button in the properties window.
Step 5
Icons for items such as "My Computer", "Network Neighborhood", "My Documents", "Full Trash", "Empty Trash" are replaced in another way. Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select Properties from the context menu. Alternatively, open the Display component in Control Panel under Appearance and Themes.
Step 6
In the "Properties: Display" dialog box, go to the "Desktop" tab and click on the "Desktop Settings" button. In the additional window "Desktop Elements" that opens, select in the "Desktop Icons" group the thumbnail of the item you need and click on the "Change Icon" button. Specify the path to the new icon, click OK and apply the new settings.
