The Windows operating system over time accumulates a large amount of information about the applications and components that have ever been installed. The registry stores data on the operation of applications, settings made and other operations of the system. Unnecessary data must be periodically deleted from the registry, and for this you can use special utilities.
Instructions
Step 1
There are many different programs for cleaning the registry. Among them is the popular CCleaner utility. It automatically cleans up unnecessary entries and does not require the user to know the structure of this section of the operating system.
Step 2
Go to the official CCleaner developer site and download the program installer file. After the download is complete, launch it and follow the instructions of the installer that appear on the screen. After the installation is complete, launch the program using a shortcut on your desktop or through the Start menu.
Step 3
In the left part of the program window, select the "Registry" tab. The application allows you to select the parameters that you would like to remove from the system registry. The utility corrects errors in the entries in the Windows section, removes links to missing libraries, incorrect file extensions and other possible problems. You can select all the items to completely clean the registry from unnecessary entries.
Step 4
Click on the "Check" button. The program will search for problems that are present in the registry. Wait for the end of the check.
Step 5
Press the "Fix" key. The utility will offer to make a backup copy of the changes it is about to make. Click "Yes" and choose a location to save the backup file. Then click on the "Fix All" button. The program will remove all unnecessary registry entries and it will be completely cleaned up.
Step 6
If after working with the application there are any problems in the functioning of the system, run the backup file to restore the parameters that were set before the cleaning.
