Over time, any CD-ROM may malfunction. The fact is that during prolonged use of the drive, the laser head gets clogged, and it stops "seeing" many discs. In addition, discs that have the slightest damage are often impossible to open. In this case, it becomes necessary to restore the normal operation of the optical drive.

Step 1
To rebuild the drive, you will need to purchase a dedicated cleaning kit. Of course, these are additional costs. But, firstly, such a kit is much cheaper than a new drive, and secondly, it can be used repeatedly.
Step 2
You can purchase a drive cleaning kit at any computer store. The kit, as a rule, includes a cleaning disc directly, wipes and a special cleaning agent. After purchasing the kit, check for instructions. If so, study it carefully. It may provide additional guidance on how to use the cleaning disc. If there are no instructions, that's okay. The principle of operation of all cleaning discs is practically the same.
Step 3
The first step is to open the cleaning agent. Place a drop of cleaning liquid on the disc, then take a tissue and rub the liquid over the entire surface of the disc. Then insert the storage medium into the computer drive. Basically, such discs have an autorun function, that is, cleaning should start automatically. All you need to do is wait for the operation to complete.
Step 4
These discs also have programs that test the CD-ROM after a cleanup operation. You do not need to activate the program. It will start working immediately after the drive is cleaned. When all operations are complete, a notification should appear with a report on cleaning your CD-ROM.
Step 5
If after you have inserted the disc into the drive, cleaning does not start automatically, you should go to "My Computer" and enable autoplay of the disc. Basically, automatic cleaning does not start on media in which additional parameters can be set in the menu before starting the operation, for example, set deep cleaning or standard. In this case, you need to select all the necessary parameters and start the cleaning process using the disc menu. These DVDs are more functional, but tend to cost a little more than standard DVDs.
