Instructions

Step 1

To replace the background with a video, you must first shoot the necessary frames on a solid and uniform background (green or blue), and then use the Chroma Key effect in Sony Vegas Pro when processing the video.

Step 2

Load the captured video into Vegas Pro and then launch the Chroma Keyer effect by selecting it from the list of main effects. Then, to make more detailed and thoughtful program settings, turn off the effect in the Video Event FX window.

Step 3

Take the eyedropper on the toolbar and in the preview window click on the background color that you want to extract from the video. Turn Chroma Keyer back on so that the green background disappears. However, the background is not completely removed.

Step 4

In order to finally get rid of the background and prepare the video for overlaying on a new background, select the Show mask only option in the settings. In mask mode, see which objects are black and which are white. The background to be removed should be as black as possible, without white or gray blotches.

Step 5

Modify background removal in mask mode by adjusting the high threshold parameter. As a result of the correction, the main subject of the video should be completely white, and the background should be completely black. Then adjust the low threshold parameter to eliminate the remaining fragments of the background.

Step 6

Be careful not to damage the edges of the main subject of the video. Disable mask mode. Apply the Chroma Blur effect to the video and set the maximum value to blur the edges of the subject and get rid of the colored halo that may remain from background removal.

Step 7

Launch Chroma Keyer again and set a low Blur Amount. Overlay the video with a new background.
