Qip is one of the most popular, especially in the Russian-speaking area of the Internet, applications for messaging over the Internet. It allows you to use several protocols in one interface, including the ICQ protocol, which is perhaps the most widespread on the Internet. Among the settings of this application, the most important are those that determine the parameters of connection to the global network and to the ICQ messaging network.

Instructions

Step 1

Launch the application and click the "Settings" icon - this is the icon on the far right in the row of icons under the title of the main program window. You can also open the Qip settings window from the main menu of the messenger. The button of this menu is not marked with any inscription, but it is located in the lower left corner of the main window, above the user status button. The item for calling application settings is also called "Settings" in this menu.

Step 2

The sections available to the user are listed in the left column of the Qip settings window. The "Connection" tab you need is placed almost at the end of the list - click on it and the control elements of the settings will be displayed in the right pane of the window. This tab contains the settings for your local connection, which determine whether the application should use a direct connection or use a proxy server for this. Here you can also enter the address, port and authorization data for the proxy server, or set the program to automatically detect these parameters.

Step 3

Two checkboxes placed in the lower part of this tab allow you to program the behavior of the messenger when the connection is lost. Uncheck the top box if you don't want Qip to send control packets from time to time. It does this to prevent the server from dropping the connection due to client inactivity. And if you uncheck the lower checkbox, the program will not try to restore the broken Internet connection.

Step 4

If your messenger uses one or more ICQ accounts, then Qip has another window with connection settings. It can be opened via the context menu that appears when you click on the icon of any of these accounts at the bottom of the application window. The first item in this menu is named “Network Settings”.

Step 5

After opening the settings window, go to the "Connection" tab. It is divided into two sections, in one of which - the lower one - you can override the Internet connection parameters described above. The drop-down list and the text field below it, placed in the upper section, allow you to select the address of the ICQ server and one of its ports.
