A video adapter, or video card, is a device that converts into a video signal and displays digital information in the computer's memory on the screen. It can be a graphic or video file, spreadsheet, or text.

Step 1
Like any other device in the system unit, the video adapter needs a driver for normal operation - a small utility with which it will interact with the operating system. Typically, video card manufacturers sell drivers bundled with the device on a CD. But, if you lost this disk or bought the card from your hands, you will have to look for the driver yourself.
Step 2
First you need to determine the type of video adapter. On the Internet, you can find convenient free programs for determining the configuration of your computer. Download the CPU-Z utility and run it. In the Graphics tab, the type of video adapter is recorded.
Step 3
The PC Wizard performs similar tasks. After downloading and installing this utility, go to the "Hardware" section and click on the display icon. There you will find information about the video adapter and monitor. Now that you know the type of video card, go to the manufacturer's website and download the driver.
Step 4
There is one more way. Go to the "Control Panel" and expand the "System" node. In the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. Devices on which the driver is not installed or installed incorrectly are grouped into the "Other devices" group and are marked with a yellow question mark and exclamation mark.
Step 5
Right-click on the line "Video adapter" and select "Properties" from the context menu. Go to the Details tab and select the Equipment IDs item from the drop-down list. Copy the shortest entry using the Ctrl + C hotkeys (you cannot copy using the "Copy" command from the drop-down menu).
Step 6
Go to the DevID website and paste the information from the clipboard into the search line using the Ctrl + V hotkeys. Click Search. The program will offer a choice of several driver versions. To download the utility to your computer, click on the floppy disk image on the right.
