If you are bored with the standard white background of Windows folders, you can change it to any color or pattern using the built-in system tools or special programs.

Instructions
Step 1
Windows XP gives you the ability to change the background color of a folder. To do this, right-click on the desktop, select Properties> Appearance tab> Advanced button.

In the drop-down list of the "Element" item, select the "Window" item. To the right of the Element is Color 1. In the drop-down color palette, you can choose any one that suits you. Then click "Ok".
Step 3
In order to insert your picture instead of the background in Windows XP, you need to write a special code, which is quite difficult for an ordinary PC user to do. Therefore, it is easier to do this with the help of a small, free program "FolderFon".
Step 4
After you have downloaded the program, install it by double-clicking the left mouse button on the file "folderfon_setup". The program will be installed in the default C: Program FilesSoft AleXStam directory.
Step 5
Start the program by double-clicking on the icon labeled "FolderFon". The main program window will open. On the left side, you will see a row of buttons with a red flag on the left. Click on the topmost button "Create Directory". The "Background creation directory" window will open in which you are prompted to select the folder whose background you want to change.
Step 6
After selecting the desired folder in the explorer of this window, click the "Add" button. The full address of this folder will appear in the lower list, and it will be marked with a check mark. Click the "Ok" button. Pay attention - now the color of the checkbox on the Create Directory button has changed to green.
Step 7
Click on the "Open Picture" button. The "Confirmation" window will open in which you are prompted to either select a picture or choose to change the background color of the folder.
Step 8
Click on the "Open Picture" button and in the window that appears, select either a set of backgrounds offered to you by the "FolderFon" program, or select any from your hard drive. Click on the picture icon and the "Open" button.
Step 9
Then click on the "Save settings" button and confirm your choice by clicking "Yes". Now the background of your folder has changed from the usual white to your own, convenient for you.
Step 10
If you need to return the background of the folder to the standard one, open the program again, select the folder in which you changed the background and click the "Remove background from folder" button.
