Step 1
If you constantly use certain shortcuts or buttons that may be on the Start menu, you can copy them to your desktop. For example, sometimes there is a catastrophic lack of time to turn off the computer, and the long-awaited computer shutdown menu appears for a very long time, because you immediately close all programs at once. To turn off the computer, just create the corresponding buttons on the desktop.
Step 2
To create functional buttons on the desktop, you need to create a shortcut and register the launch of the system command instead of the path to the file. Right-click on an empty space on the desktop, select “Create” from the pop-up context menu, then select “Create shortcut”.
Step 3
You will see a window in which you need to enter a command that will determine the action of your button. List of possible actions:
- computer shutdown - shutdown.exe -s -t 0 -;
- computer restart - shutdown.exe -r -t 0 -;
- transition to hibernation mode (while saving all performed operations) - rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState or shutdown.exe -h -t 0;
- switch to standby mode - rundll32.exe powrprof.dll, SetSuspendState Sleep;
- computer lock - Rundll32.exe User32.dll, LockWorkStation.
Step 4
After entering one of these commands, click the "Next" button. Enter the button names that correspond to the command you entered. Click Finish. You have created a button.
Step 5
After the performed actions, you will only have to change the icon of your button: right-click on the button, select "Properties". In the window that opens, go to the "Shortcut" tab, click the "Change icon" button and select the appropriate icon.
