Knowing how to record sound from a cassette tape will help many people preserve their old family records and archives, transferring them to modern digital format. Moreover, the use of modern computer technology allows you to clean and edit the sound, giving the old recording a completely different sound.

Step 1
Find a line-out on your cassette deck or stereo. If not, then an ordinary headphone jack will do. Pick up the required cord for it. Usually, when buying musical equipment, it comes with it in the kit. If any socket does not fit in size, you should additionally purchase special adapters in the radio parts store.
Step 2
Next, you should find the line-in on your computer. It is located on the back of the system unit, next to the jack for external speakers (speakers), and looks like a small blue hole with a radio wave pattern. Connect the cord from the switched on tape recorder to the working computer.
Step 3
Check if the sound is coming from the tape recorder. To do this, turn on a radio or audio cassette on it. If everything works, then the music you have switched on should sound in the computer speakers. If there is no sound, it should be adjusted.
Step 4
To customize sound, go from your desktop to the Start menu. Open the "Control Panel" and select the "Sound" section. There you can change the sound scheme of your computer and configure your audio devices. Then go to the "Recording" tab and enable the "Line in" function. After that, the sound should start playing.
Step 5
Purchase, install and run an inexpensive sound editor. The most famous are "Nero Wave Editor" (included in the program for burning discs "Nero"), "Gold Wave", as well as the free "Audasity", which is freely distributed over the Internet.
Step 6
Click the "Record" button in the sound editor. In parallel, insert into the tape-recorder and turn on the audio cassette. Sound editing software will record the incoming signal. All is ready. Save the song as a file.
