Orphaned lines refers to one or more lines of a new paragraph at the beginning or end of a page. In professional texts, as a rule, they try to avoid such orphans. In the Microsoft Office Word text editor, you do not need to manually adjust the position of the text on the page. It is enough to set the required parameters once to disable orphans.

Instructions

Step 1

To remove orphans in a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document, select (using the mouse or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl, Shift and arrow keys in the desired direction) the paragraphs in which you need to disable orphans. Go to the Page Layout (or Page Layout) tab and click on the arrow button in the Paragraph group to bring up a dialog box.

Step 2

Also, the "Paragraph" dialog box can be called by clicking anywhere in the document with the right mouse button. Select the "Paragraph" line in the drop-down menu and click on it with the left mouse button. In the window that opens, go to the "Position on the page" tab, in the "Pagination" section, set the marker in the "Prohibit orphans" field. By default, this mode is enabled.

Step 3

To force a page break between paragraphs anywhere on the page, place your cursor in front of the beginning of the paragraph you want to place on another page and click the Insert tab. In the "Pages" section, left-click on the "Page Break" option.

Step 4

If you want several paragraphs not to be broken and placed strictly together on the page, select the paragraphs that need to be placed on one page with the mouse or a keyboard shortcut. Go to the "Page Layout" tab ("Page Layout") and open the "Paragraph" dialog box, in the window that opens, go to the "Position on Page" tab. Place a marker in front of the "Keep from next" option in the "Pagination" column. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Step 5

To prevent the insertion of a page break in the middle of a paragraph, select the paragraph you want by selecting it. In the Paragraph dialog box, go to the Position on Page tab and set the bullet to Don't Break Paragraph. Close the dialog.
