Even if you are using the latest version of the Microsoft Word text editor, this is not a guarantee that the text document you previously created cannot be damaged. It so happens that instead of opening the document, an error appears. It's okay if you have a copy of it. But what to do when you haven't bothered to create it? In this case, you need to try to restore the document.

Necessary

  • - a computer with Windows OS;
  • - text editor Microsoft Word;
  • - Recovery Toolbox for Word application.

Instructions

Step 1

Start Microsoft Word. Then select "File" from the menu. Then, in the menu that appears, click on the "Open" command and specify the path to the damaged text file. Select it with the left mouse button.

Step 2

At the bottom of the window you will see the "Open" button, next to which there will be an arrow. Click on it with the left mouse button. From the list of possible actions, select the "Open and Repair" option. This will bring up the "Convert File" dialog box. Here you can select the encoding of the file in which the document was created. If you know the encoding, choose it. If you don't know the encoding, just click OK and it will be selected automatically. The file recovery process will then begin. When finished, the document will open and you can save the recovered version.

Step 3

Second option. Proceed in the same way as in the first method until you select the required document. Then click on the arrow opposite the line "All files". In the list that appears, select "Recover text from any file", and then click "Open". The text file will be restored. It is possible that the recovered document will need some editing.

Step 4

The third option. Download Recovery Toolbox for Word from the Internet. Install it on your computer and then launch it. In the main menu, click on the folder icon, then on Analyze. The procedure for analyzing the text file begins. The contents of the text file will be displayed in the program window. After the analysis is complete, the Start recovery button will be available. Specify the folder where the file will be restored and it will be saved there.
