Bootable USB drives are created to load the required programs prior to logging on to Windows. This method is often used to install the operating system on mobile computers that do not have their own DVD drives.

Instructions
Step 1
There are two main ways to create a bootable USB flash drive: entering commands yourself through the console and using special utilities. If you have the opportunity to install additional software, then use the second method. Download the WinSetupFromUSB program from
Step 2
Connect your USB drive to the appropriate port on your laptop or desktop computer. Copy all important information to your hard drive. If you are not working with a large drive, then create an additional partition on it. This will allow you to use only a fraction of the space to create the boot sector.
Step 3
Run the WinSetupFromUSB.exe file and in the first field of the window that appears, select the required USB drive or its partition. Click the BootIce button. After a new window appears, check that the flash drive is selected correctly and click the Perform Format button.
Step 4
In the new menu, select the USB-HDD (Single) item and click the Next Step button. Select the file system format that the specified USB drive will be formatted to. Press the Ok button several times when the warning windows appear.
Step 5
After the BootIce utility finishes, return to the WinSetupFromUSB window. Select the type of boot files. If you want to write the installation files of the Windows XP operating system to a USB flash drive, then select the first item. Specify the Other Grub4Dos option to create a bootable CD with the software bundle.
Step 6
If you chose the second option, then unpack the Grub4Dos folder from the previously downloaded archive. Specify the path to this folder and click the Go button. If you are creating a USB flash drive with Windows, then select the directory where the copy of the installation disk is located. Wait for the utility to complete and remove the USB drive.
