The main system configuration parameters displayed in the System Properties window can be changed by standard methods of the Windows XP operating system. The OS graphical interface allows even an inexperienced user to perform such operations without the risk of introducing fatal errors.

Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "Control Panel" item to initiate changes to the configuration parameters of OS WIndows.

Select Performance and Maintenance and expand the System link.
Step 3
Click the Computer Name tab and enter the desired computer name or description in the Description field to display the selected name on the network.
Step 4
Click the Identification button to launch the Network Identification Wizard tool to complete the LAN connection.

Click the Change button to select options for displaying the computer name in the domain and workgroup.
Step 6
Go to the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button to launch the utility.

Use the Driver Signing button in the Drivers section to set the desired level of protection using digital driver signatures and click the Hardware Profiles button to determine what OS will do to select installed hardware during system boot.

Click the Advanced tab and click the Options button in the Performance section to specify the use of visual effects when displaying interface elements.

Use the Options button in the User Profiles section to edit, delete, and copy the selected profiles and click the Options button in the Startup and Recovery section to define the default OS to boot.

Click the Automatic Updates tab and select the Automatic (Recommended) check box to confirm that the operating system is automatically updated.

Click the System Restore tab and uncheck the Disable System Restore box to allow the creation of regular restore points.

Press the OK button to execute the command and confirm the application of the selected changes by pressing the "Apply" button.
