With any operating system, there are situations when some hardware stops working. This is often due to a malfunctioning driver. There can be many reasons why the driver stops responding to device commands and works correctly, but the fact remains that the device does not work. It is also possible that the computer cannot produce sound and an inscription appears about the possible absence of drivers for sound equipment.
Necessary
Computer, sound card, CD with drivers, Internet access (if necessary)
Instructions
Step 1
Find the discs that were given to you when you bought your computer or accessories. Among them should be a disc with the words "Drivers". Install it in your computer drive.
Step 2
Right click on "My Computer". A context menu will open. From this menu, select the "Properties" command. The command is located at the very bottom of the column. Click on it with the left mouse button. Find the item "Device Manager". Depending on the version of Windows you are using, it is located in different panels. In Windows XP - in the upper left pane, in Windows 7 or VISTA - in the upper left pane. Select this item by clicking on it with the left mouse button.
Step 3
The list of equipment installed on the computer will appear in the form of a column. Find the item "Sound devices". On the left next to the inscription you will see an arrow, click on it and open the list of sound equipment. There are situations when “unknown sound equipment” is written in the list instead of the name of the sound card. It doesn't matter, the procedure will be the same.
Step 4
Right-click on the name of the audio equipment that appears in the list. In the menu that appears, select "update driver". In the update options, select "search for a driver on this computer". Select the drive of your computer as the update source, since a driver disc is installed there. Then click "OK" and wait for the system to find the required drivers. In a few minutes the drivers will be found. The system will prompt you to install them. Click the "OK" button and wait for the installation to complete. Reboot your computer.
Step 5
If the driver disk is missing or lost, after clicking on the "update driver" command, check the box next to the "use the Internet connection" line. The system itself will find, save and update the drivers for the sound card. The process is a bit lengthy, but a backup copy of the drivers will be saved on the computer if reinstallation is required in the future.
