To replace the folder icons installed in the operating system with others, you need to do some preliminary preparation. It is desirable that the icons be in files of a specially designated format - ico. If you have them in files of a different graphic format, then you can convert it to the desired one, for example, using some online service. And then you can proceed directly to the procedure of replacing old icons with new ones.
Instructions
Step 1
Start Windows Explorer by pressing the WIN + E keys. You can do this by double-clicking the My Computer shortcut on the desktop, or by opening the menu on the Start button and selecting Explorer in the Programs section.

Find and right-click the folder you want to change the icon for. A context menu will drop out, in which you need to select the bottom item - "Properties". In this way, you will open a window that gives access to changes to some of the properties of the folder.

Go to the "Settings" tab. On it, you can change both the folder icon and the picture that denotes it, when the "thumbnail" mode is enabled in the Explorer settings. To change the icon, click the bottom button - "Change icon".

Click the "Browse" button, find the prepared ico-file on your computer and click the "Open" button (or press the Enter key). If you use Windows Vista, apart from ico files, you can also use pictures in.
Step 5
Click OK in both open windows (Change Folder Icon and Folder Options) and the folder icon replacement will be completed. If necessary, change the icon of another folder - repeat the operation.

Another way to replace images of folders in the system involves the use of programs designed to change the graphical interface of the operating system. You can find many of these tweakers online, for example Microangelo On Display, Stardock IconPackager, TuneUp Utilities, etc. They change the labels and icons of all folders at once.
