Every operating system in the Windows family has standard folders. This includes the My Documents folder. By default, it stores documents of various office applications, some components of video games. The name "My Documents" is standard for all versions of Windows operating systems. Although in some versions it may simply be called "Documents". If you are not satisfied with this folder name, you can change it to something else.

Necessary

Computer with Windows OS (XP, Windows 7)

Instructions

Step 1

It is the folder that needs to be renamed. On the desktop, as a rule, there is not a folder, but a shortcut that allows you to quickly open it. The folder with documents is usually in a different place. If the operating system Windows 7 is installed on your computer, then rename "My Documents" as follows. Open your system drive (by default, C, a different letter for the system drive is rarely assigned).

Step 2

Next, open the "Users" folder. It contains two more folders: "General" and "Administrator". Click on "Administrator", and find "My Documents" in it, then right-click on it. A context menu will appear. From this menu, select Rename. Then enter a new name for the folder, press the Enter key and it will be renamed.

Step 3

Even after renaming the folder, the desktop shortcut will have the old name. Remove this shortcut. Then click on the folder "My Documents" with the right mouse button. Move the mouse cursor over the "Send" line. An additional menu will appear, in which select "Desktop, create shortcut".

Step 4

Follow the steps below to rename the My Documents folder on the Windows XP operating system. Open the system drive, then - Documents and Settings. Select the folder that matches your account name. Further, accordingly, find "My Documents". The renaming operation is no different from the case with Windows 7. In the context menu, you just need to select "Rename", and then set a new name for this folder.
