Please note that such a device has a significant inrush current, which creates the risk of damaging the motherboard when connected to a laptop. Therefore, connect it to such machines not directly, but through a USB hub with an external power supply. Some external hard drives are equipped with such blocks initially, then a hub is not required.
Step 2
The second way to transfer data is to temporarily move the hard disk from one machine to another. De-energize both computers before performing this operation. When installing a drive as a second on a loop, where there is already one drive (it does not matter, magnetic or optical), pay attention to the position of the jumpers setting the "Master" and "Slave" modes - they must be different. When you have finished copying files, power off both computers again before putting the hard drive back in.
Step 3
Unlike a desktop computer, a laptop does not allow more than one hard drive to be installed. In addition, drives designed for desktop computers are not suitable for laptops, and vice versa. To connect a laptop drive to a regular motherboard, use an IDE-IDE adapter (from a miniature connector to a regular one) or IDE-USB, whichever is more convenient for you. In hard drives of the SATA standard, connectors are standardized, so a laptop drive of this standard can be connected to a desktop computer without an adapter, but a regular 3.5-inch SATA drive cannot be installed in a laptop even if it supports this standard - it simply does not go there. will fit.

If the need to connect a hard drive from a desktop computer to a laptop nevertheless arises, use, depending on its type, an IDE-USB or SATA-USB adapter. Such an adapter must be completed with an external power supply unit.
