A computer can be successfully used to play video files in almost any format. In addition, the video signal can be output to a TV, allowing the computer to be used as a DVD player. In order to watch a movie, it must be recorded in the correct format.

Step 1
For recording movies, the most commonly used formats are *.avi, *.mpeg2, *. VOB and *. VCD. The first format is in fact a container containing a video file of any format, but in practice it is not paid attention to and is spoken of as *.avi format. The *.mpeg2 format is used in DVD, general digital broadcasting and high definition television. Files with the *. VOB extension are used for burning factory DVDs. *. VCD format can be played on most DVD players. There are other video file formats, you can find detailed descriptions on the Internet.
Step 2
The choice of the video file format depends a lot on whether you will burn your movie to a CD or it will remain on your hard drive. In the first case, the most convenient format is *. VOB, as it allows you to create discs with a convenient menu. It is in this format that most factory disks with films are recorded. When using files with *.avi and *.mpeg2 extensions, you will not be able to create a menu, the DVD-player will simply open a folder with files, among which you can select and launch the one you need.
Step 3
If you plan on playing movies from your hard drive, the file format doesn't really matter. However, *.avi and *.mpeg2 files in this case turn out to be much more convenient than *. VOB - each movie will be represented by one file, while in the *. VOB format in the VIDEO_TS folder there are always many additional files needed by the DVD player. If you want, you can always convert one format to another using converter programs, but it takes a lot of time.
Step 4
In the event that you need to copy movies to your computer from a CD, it is best to save all its contents in a separate folder. This method is also convenient for files with the *.avi and *.mpeg2 extensions, since you can very conveniently indicate the full name of the movie in the folder name. Finding the desired movie among folders with full names will be much easier than among the list of avi files. To copy, first create a folder with the desired name, then copy the movie file into it.
Step 5
Use Nero or Ashampoo Burning Studio to burn movies to CD. If you just need to transfer a movie file from your computer to a CD, select the "Burn Data" option, then add the desired file in the program menu, insert a blank CD and start burning.
