Often, images in the graphics editor Adobe Photoshop are composed of two or more existing images. Especially often ready-made photographs or cliparts are used as a background image. You can open a file containing a background image in the editor in different ways - both using standard operating system procedures and using Photoshop's own software mechanisms.

Step 1
If the background image is contained in a separate file, there are several ways to open it in the graphics editor. The easiest one is to drag the file into the Photoshop window. Do this, and the operating system will do all the other operations for loading the picture into the program itself.

Another way is using the context menu of the file - right-click on it and in the pop-up menu, hover over the "Open with" item. An additional section with a list of programs will appear. If you have previously opened this file type with Photoshop, it will have an Adobe Photoshop line - select it. Otherwise, click on the bottom line - "Select program". In the window that opens, click on the checkmark opposite the inscription "Other programs", expand the additional list of applications, find Photoshop in it, select and click OK. If there is no graphical editor in this list either, click the "Browse" button, in the dialog that opens, find the executable file Photoshop.exe, select it and click on the "Open" button.
Step 3
You can use the custom dialog for loading images of the graphics editor to open a file with a background image. In the menu, this command is placed in the "File" section - open it and click on the "Open" line. You can replace this action by pressing the "hot keys" Ctrl + O. In the dialog that opens, navigate to the desired folder using the directory tree that opens in the "Folder" drop-down list - it is placed in the very first line of the dialog box. Then find and select the background image file. Finally, click the "Open" button.
Step 4
All of the above methods load the background image into a separate tab of the graphics editor. To transfer it to the document you are working on, use the operations of selection, copy and paste. To select the entire image, press the key combination Ctrl + A, to place the background in the clipboard, use the combination Ctrl + C. Then go to the desired tab and paste the contents of the clipboard using the “hot keys” Ctrl + V.
