Sound quality today is measured in kilobytes of audio stream per second (Kbps), in other words, in bitrate. The sound file format, or its extension, also plays an important role in sound quality.

Step 1
To find out the sound quality of a music file or song, right-click on it and select the last item "Properties" in the Windows context menu. In the file dialog box that appears, go to the Details tab.
Step 2
You will see several blocks of information containing tags, information about the stream, source, content and parameters of the file. In the "Audio" block, you will most likely see a single line if you are working with an mp3 file. The "Stream rate" line displays the number of kilobits of data per second: - 48 kbps - the quality of the Dial-Up telephone conversation; - 96 kbps - the quality of weak radio air, vinyl; - 128 kbps - the average quality of the radio air, the most simplified quality *.mp3 (the most common bitrate, with this sound quality, complex instruments and melodies can be distorted and "crackle", however, light, quiet melodies, as well as speech, sound quality); - 160 kbps - confident radio quality; - 192 kbps s - standard mp3 quality; - 256 kbps - CD quality; - 320 kbps - studio quality.
Step 3
Pay attention to the file extension. Music files in WAV (Windows Audio Video) format usually have higher sound quality, from 320 to 1000 Kbps or more. VBR-mp3 means that during recording, the sound changes in sound quality. It usually jumps in the range of 128-192 Kbps or 192-320 Kbps.
Step 4
But what if the file you are listening to is on the network on the site, and not on the computer? First, try downloading the file, if available. If the download link is missing on the page, listen to the entire file through Internet Explorer. The song will be downloaded to a hidden system folder located at: C: Documents and Settings Default UserLocal Settings Temporary Internet Files (Default User - username). This folder contains Internet Explorer cache, including streaming audio.
