In Microsoft Office Excel, it is possible to hide the columns and rows of a table. This is useful in cases where you need to increase the visibility of complex tables, displaying only the most important data, or hide the display of confidential information.

Instructions

Step 1

When you collapse rows, the corresponding headers disappear, so anyone who opens an Excel workbook can easily guess that if row 5 comes after row 3, then row 4 is hidden. Take this into account when filling out the data on the sheet.

Step 2

In order to collapse the lines, move the mouse cursor to the column with the names of the lines in the left part of the window. Click the left mouse button on the line from which the selection will start. Keeping it pressed, move the cursor to the line where the selection will end. Release the mouse button.

Step 3

If the lines are not contiguous, press and hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard and mark the lines you need with the mouse. In this mode, do not use the mouse wheel to move around the sheet, since the Ctrl key is also responsible for the page scale. Use the scroll bar. If you still want to move around the sheet with the mouse, release the hotkey while scrolling.

Step 4

Having selected the desired range, right-click on the selection. In the context menu, select the "Hide" command by clicking on it with the left mouse button. The selected lines will be collapsed. To perform this task, you can also use the buttons on the standard toolbar.

Step 5

Select the lines you want to collapse and click the Home tab. Find the "Cells" block on the toolbar. Click on the "Format" button. In the drop-down menu, select the "Visibility" group and the "Hide or Show" item. The submenu expands. Select the command "Hide Rows" in it.

Step 6

To return the display to collapsed rows, select two adjacent rows, between which the data is hidden, and click on the selection with the right mouse button. In the context menu, select the "Display" command. Another option: select not rows, but cells that meet the specified conditions. On the toolbar, in the Format menu, call the Show Rows command from the Hide or Show group.
