Electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps successfully replace conventional electromagnetic ones. They significantly extend the life of the lamps, but are themselves much more sensitive to power surges.

Instructions

Step 1

When choosing an electronic ballast, be guided by the following parameters: - power range (the power of the lamp that you want to connect to the ballast must be within this range);

- input voltage - must be equal to the mains voltage or slightly exceed it;

- the type of lamp for which the ballast is intended (with hot or cold cathodes) - must correspond to the type of lamp with which you intend to operate it.

Step 2

Connect the lamp to the ballast with as short wires as possible. If it is to be located at a distance from the outlet, the ballast should be placed near the lamp and not the outlet. This will reduce high-frequency losses in the wires and almost eliminate radio interference, even in the LW range.

Step 3

To connect a hot cathode lamp, find two pins on the ballast that are designed to connect to one of the filaments. Connect them to a standard lamp holder. Connect the second bulb holder to the other two ballast pins in the same way. Position the holders in the luminaire so that the lamp can be clamped between them. Clamp it between them, for which insert the pins into the cuts on the holders and rotate the lamp around its axis by 90 degrees.

Step 4

If a cold cathode lamp is connected, then it is usually already equipped with special high-voltage wires and a connector. Under no circumstances replace them with others or lengthen them. Simply plug the plug into the appropriate ballast socket. If it has two sockets, which means that it is designed to work with two lamps connected in series, be sure to connect both.

Step 5

Connect the power cord to the specially designed ballast terminals. If the ballast is not equipped with a fuse, be sure to connect it to the break in one of the mains wires. The fuse rating must be equal to the current consumed by the ballast from the mains during start-up (it has nothing to do with the current passing through the lamp). If the ballast is designed to connect to ground, connect it with a conductor slightly longer than the phase and zero, so that it breaks off last when pulled.

Step 6

Secure the ballast so that it will not fall under any circumstances when the power cable is pulled. Insulate all connections carefully.

Step 7

Plug in the ballast and check that the lamp is on.
