Archiving is a very convenient feature for compact storage and transportation of files, provided by specially designed programs. Packing one or more objects into a compressed archive file allows you to reduce the total space they occupy on the media and speed up transmission over computer networks. The very procedure for creating a new archive presents no difficulty.

Instructions

Step 1

Install an archiving program if your operating system does not already have such a tool. Most modern computer applications of this kind can work with all the most popular archiving formats, so you can choose both a program that mentions the ZIP format (https://corel.com) and the RAR format (https:// rarlab.com / download.htm) or 7-zip (https://7-zip.org). After downloading and installing such an application, the packaging and extracting functions will be available in Windows Explorer.

Step 2

Launch File Explorer using the Win + E keyboard shortcut or by double-clicking the My Computer icon on your desktop. Navigate the directory tree on the left side of the application window to the folder containing the file that you want to place in the archive you are creating.

Step 3

Right-click on the file name and select one of the two lines starting with the words "Add to archive" from the pop-up context menu. For example, if you have installed the WinRAR archiver, and the file is named MyFile.txt, then one of these lines will look like this: "Add to archive MyFile.rar". Select this line if you want the archiver, using the default settings, to do all the work without asking any more questions.

Step 4

If you want to control the settings or the archive must have some non-standard features (password, comment, multivolume, other name, etc.), then select the "Add to archive" line in the context menu without mentioning the file name. In this case, the archiver window will open, and you will have the opportunity to make the necessary changes. Once done, click OK to start the packaging process for the file.

Step 5

If you need to create an archive containing a folder and everything in it, then proceed in the same way. If you need to pack several separate objects (files, folders or both together), the only difference is that you first need to select these objects, and then call the context menu with all the same archiving items.
