For most users, having multiple local drives has long been the norm. There are many reasons why it is customary to "partition" hard drives into partitions. It may be a desire to differentiate free space between all users of a computer or laptop, as well as the need to install the operating system on a separate partition. But sometimes there are situations in which you need to add a partition on the hard disk without formatting it and losing information.
Necessary
- Powerquest Partition Magic
- Acronis
Instructions
Step 1
Select the program with which you will divide the hard drive. Better to use Powerquest Partition Magic or Acronis. The first program is most adapted for the average user, and the second is more functional.
Step 2
If your choice fell on the Powerquest Partition Magic program, then after launching, open the "Wizards" menu and go to the "Partition Creation" or "Quick Partition Creation" tab. Please note that a new partition can only be created from the free area of one of the existing local drives. In this regard, take care in advance to delete unnecessary information.
Step 3
Select the required size and file system of the new partition, specify the volume label (optional). Complete the Partition Wizard. Click the "Start" or "Apply" button. Its icon looks like the checkerboard flag in the picture.
