Instructions

Step 1

Get information about the first of the video files. Open it in VirtualDub by choosing File and "Open video file …" from the menu. Then open the AVI Information dialog by selecting File and File Information… from the menu. Memorize or write down the values of the video frame resolution, frame rate, audio sampling rate.

Step 2

Get video information from the second file. Follow the steps similar to those described in the first step.

Step 3

Start converting one of the video files. The purpose of the conversion is to bring the video parameters from both files to the same values. It is necessary that the videos to be stitched have the same resolution, frame rate and audio stream sampling.

At this stage, select the values to which the video parameters should be reduced. It makes sense to choose the lowest of the resolutions and frame rates, the highest audio sampling rate. Make a note of your selections. Open the first of the converted files.

Step 4

Change the video frame rate. Select Video and Full processing mode from the menu. Select the Video and Frame Rate … items. In the Video frame rate control dialog, enable the Convert to fps option. Specify a new value for the frame rate. Click OK.

Step 5

Change the video frame resolution. Select Video and Filters… from the menu. In the Filters dialog, click the "Add …" button. In the list of the Add Filter dialog, highlight the resize item, click OK. In the "Filter: Resize" dialog, check the "Absolute (pixels)" radio button and specify new values for the lengths of the sides of the frame in the text boxes located to the right of this control. Click OK on both dialogs.

Step 6

Select video compression options. Select Video and Compression… from the menu. Select and configure your preferred codec in the Select video compression dialog. Click OK.

Step 7

Change the audio sampling rate. Select Audio and Full processing mode from the menu. Then select Audio and "Conversion…". In the Audio Conversion dialog, set your preferred sample rate. To do this, select one of the options corresponding to the standard frequencies, or activate the Custom option and enter your own frequency value. Click OK.

Step 8

Select your audio compression options. In the menu, click Audio and "Compression…". In the dialog that appears, select your preferred codec. Then select one of the compression formats with the sampling rate selected in the previous step. Click OK.

Step 9

Save your edited video. Select the menu items File and "Save as AVI …". Specify a name for the new file, click the "Save" button. Wait for the end of the recording process.

Step 10

Prepare the second video clip for combining. Repeat steps 3-9 for the second file. As a result of the actions performed, the disk will contain two video files with identical parameters.

Step 11

Open one of the video pieces to be combined. Select File and "Open video file …" from the menu. Highlight the video file that should follow first. This should be one of the files created in the previous steps. Click the "Open" button.

Step 12

Add the second of the pieces to combine to the video. Select File and "Append AVI segment…" from the menu. In the dialog, specify the second of the files created in the previous steps. Click Open.

Step 13

Adjust the compression settings for the resulting video. Follow steps 6 and 8.

Step 14

Staple the video. Select File and "Save as AVI …" from the menu. Specify the name of the output file, click the "Save" button. Wait for the file to finish writing to disk.
