How to choose a path when installing the program

When installing most programs, the installer asks for a directory in which to place the folder with the files. At the same time, by default, the installation location is the C: / Program Files folder. At the same time, the installation wizard reports the amount of free disk space, and how much space the program will need during installation. If the user clicks the Next button, the program is installed in the default folder.

To change the directory, click "Browse" and double-click on the logical drive icon. To avoid confusion, it is better to create a special directory for programs. Right-click on the free space and select "New" and "Folder" in the context menu. Enter a name for the new folder, for example, Programms and proceed with the installation following the instructions of the installation wizard.

How to change the default install path

To select a new default installation path for programs, you must modify some of the Windows registry keys. For all versions of this operating system, press Win + R and type regedit. In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion section, find the ProgramFilesDir or ProgramFilesDir (x86) parameters on the right side of the window. Some computers have both of these options.

By default, the "Value" field contains the C: / Program Files directory. Double click on the parameter name and enter the name of the new directory where you are going to install programs, for example, D: / Programms.

In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Wow6432Node / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion section, find the same parameters - ProgramFilesDir or ProgramFilesDir (x86) - and change them accordingly.
