When you enable hibernation, the computer shuts down and saves all memory contents to the hard drive. When the PC is turned on again, the desktop is restored to the state it was in when it entered sleep mode. This mode is convenient to use when you leave for a long time, but when you return, you want to continue working from the same moment at which you interrupted.

Instructions

Step 1

There are several ways to put your computer into sleep mode: manually or by using automatic transition. Whichever method you choose, you need to log in with an administrator account.

Step 2

To put the PC into sleep mode manually, open the Power Options component. It is located under the Performance and Maintenance category in Control Panel (opened via the Start button or the Windows key). In the Properties: Power Options window, select the Hibernate tab. An unavailable "Hibernation" tab means that your PC does not support this mode.

Step 3

Set the marker in the field "After pause, go to sleep" (there may also be an inscription "Allow the use of sleep mode"). Apply the new settings. Also pay attention to the "Advanced" tab. In the Power Buttons group there is a drop-down list with actions available when you press the power off button. You can select the "Go to sleep" option.

Step 4

After selecting the desired options, close the "Properties: Power Options" window, click on the "Start" button and select the "Shutdown" command from the menu. In the window that appears, select the "Hibernation" task.

Step 5

You can also go to sleep mode through the "Task Manager". Call the component by pressing Ctrl, alt="Image" and Del or by right-clicking on the taskbar. In the "Dispatcher" window, select the "Shutdown" item and the "Switch to sleep mode" command from the top menu bar.

Step 6

To automatically put the computer into sleep mode, call the same component as in the first case and open the APM tab. Place a marker in the "Enable automatic power management" field.

Step 7

Click the Power Plans tab. In the "Scheme settings" group, use the drop-down list to set the required time interval opposite the "Sleep mode after" item. Apply the new settings and close the window. After a specified amount of time, the computer will automatically enter sleep mode.
