Partitioning a hard disk into volumes allows you to differentiate between the storage of system and personal files. In addition, during an unexpected failure, it will take less time to check the C drive because it will contain only operating system service files.
Instructions
Step 1
Open "Control Panel" -> "Administrative Tools" -> "Computer Management". In the window that opens, select "Storage devices" -> "Disk management". The "Disk Manager" starts, where you can create and delete volumes. Unfortunately, you can only get full access to the entire disk space when you install the operating system or when you first start up a newly acquired computer or disc.
Step 2
The wizard will not allow you to work with the volume on which the service files are located, if you want to do this later. In this case, you will need special software, for example, Disk Director Suite or Paragon Partition Manager. However, before doing any data manipulation, save a backup copy to third-party media.
Step 3
As a rule, such a need arises if the partition was unsuccessful for the first time. This may become clear after a certain time, when the system disk becomes too small for the operating system files. Then you will need to redistribute disk space and increase the main volume at the expense of the rest.
Step 4
Launch Disk Director Suite. The work in this program assumes two modes - automatic and manual. In the first case, the most frequent operations are performed, united by a common goal: creating or increasing a volume at the expense of the space of others, copying or restoring a volume. Automatic mode is convenient for inexperienced users.
Step 5
Experienced users prefer manual mode, which allows relatively infrequent operations. However, in this case, the work consists in the sequential execution of a whole complex of commands, which the automatic mode performs with a few mouse clicks.
Step 6
Call the "Create Partition Wizard" from the "Disk" menu item. Set the "Partition size", select the type: "Active" (service files used by default at computer startup), "Primary" (operating system files) or "Logical" (data storage).
Step 7
Select the file system for the volume: FAT16, FAT32, NTFS for Windows or EXT1, EXT2, Swap for Linux. Complete the creation by specifying the Latin letter for the name of the new volume.
Step 8
When working with Paragon Partition Manager, use the "Advanced User Mode", which is selected in the quick launch menu. In the section "Operations with sections" select "Create section".
Step 9
Open "Partition List" -> "Disk Panel". Right click on the drive letter you want to partition into volumes. In the menu that opens, select "Move / Resize Partition". In the new window, specify "Volume size", click "Yes".
Step 10
You will see that there is a new entry in the list of disks called "(Unpartitioned)". To the right of it, click Create Section. Set the volume designation to a Latin letter and the file system type, for example, NTFS. In the "Please enter a new volume label" write "New volume". Click Yes.
Step 11
Finish the creation of the volume, to do this, open the item "Changes" in the main menu of the program. Select the "Apply Changes" -> "Yes" command.
Step 12
Restart your computer. During this process, the capacity of the hard disk will change, after which the computer will reboot itself again. This is necessary to check the system disk for errors, then the system will boot normally. Check back the files copied to third-party media.
