The capabilities of the operating systems of the Windows family allow users to personalize the appearance according to their preferences. However, the removal of the trash can icon by standard means is not provided for in all versions, and not everyone can deal with this on their own.
Instructions
Step 1
There are several options for solving this problem in the Windows XP operating system. Start Registry Editor. To do this, select "Start" -> "Run", enter regedit in the field and click "OK". Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace branch and delete the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} subkey.
Step 2
Another option is also associated with editing the registry. Launch the editor (Start -> Run, regedit) and find the HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerHideDesktopIconsClassicStartMenu and HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerHideDesktopIconsNewStartPanel branches. Find the DWORD parameter {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}, where the value 0 shows the recycle bin on the desktop, and the value 1 - hides it. If there is no parameter, create it. Set the value to 1.
Step 3
The next option does not require manual editing of the registry. Select "Start" -> "Run", enter gpedit.msc in the field and click "OK". In the "User Configuration" select the "Administrative Templates" item, then double-click on the "Desktop" item. Double click on "Remove Trash Icon from Desktop". Open the Status tab and select Enabled, click OK. After that, right-click on the desktop and select "Refresh".
Step 4
You can also use one of the tweaker programs (for example, Tweak UI, XP Tweaker, etc.). The functionality of such applications allows you to hide the trash icon from the desktop. Find the item responsible for displaying the shopping cart and check the corresponding box.
Step 5
Other methods work in the Windows 7 operating system. Right-click on the desktop and select "Personalize". Click the Change Desktop Icons link on the right side of the window. Uncheck the box next to "Recycle Bin". Then click "OK".
Step 6
The Starter and Home Basic versions of Windows 7 lack the Personalization feature. To remove the Recycle Bin from the Desktop in these versions, start Registry Editor, find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesCLSID branch, and delete the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} subkey.
