Automatic shutdown of the computer at a specified time will save the user from performing a number of actions and worries that he could forget to turn off the PC. In the Windows operating system, this can be done by assigning a task and setting a schedule for it.

Step 1
Before assigning the desired task, it is worth getting to know the shutdown utility a little closer, it is with its help that the computer will be turned off. Call the command line. To do this, click the "Start" button, expand the list of all programs and select "Command Prompt" in the "Accessories" folder.

In the new window that opens, enter the shutdown /? (shutdown, space, slash, question mark) and press Enter. Help will be displayed on the screen, where the purpose of this or that argument is described in detail. The –s argument is suitable for automatic shutdown of the computer. Close Command Prompt.

If you do not have a password set to log in, you will need to set one. Without this, you will not be able to assign a task. To protect the login with a password, open the "User Accounts" section through the "Control Panel" and select the "Create Password" task.

After that, you can go directly to the assignment of the task. Click the "Start" button, expand all programs, in the "Standard" folder, select the "System" subfolder and click on the "Scheduled Tasks" item. In the window that opens, click on the line (icon) "Add task".

The Task Scheduling Wizard will do almost everything for you, you just need to follow its instructions. When you are prompted to select a task, click the Browse button and specify the path to the shutdown.exe file. It is located on the system disk in the Windows folder and the system32 subfolder.

Set the building's frequency, schedule, and start date. When prompted for a password, enter the password that you set to log in to the system. When the "Wizard" finishes its work and closes the window, a new item will appear in the "Scheduled Tasks" folder. Click on it with the left mouse button.
Step 7
A new window will open, go to the "Task" tab. The "Run" line will contain the full path to the shutdown file. You need to supplement this entry with the –s argument so that the entry looks like this: C: (or another system drive) /WINDOWS/system32/shutdown.exe –s. Note that there must be a space between the.exe extension and the –s argument. Confirm your changes with a password and close the window.
