Restarting the operating system may be required in a number of different cases, for example, when installing new software, after making various changes, etc.
There are several different ways to restart the operating system. Each of these methods is used in different situations, such as when the computer stops responding to user requests.
Standard reboot method
In the event that the computer is working normally and the operating system is not frozen, then the user can use the standard way to reboot the OS. The restart procedure may differ in different versions of operating systems, but the principle will be the same anyway. To restart, the user will need to go to the "Start" menu, and at the very bottom of it, find the "Shutdown" item. After clicking, a special pop-up menu will open, where you can select one of the presented modes, namely "Standby mode", "Shutdown" or "Restart". Accordingly, in order to restart the operating system, you need to select the "Restart" item. In Windows 7 and Windows Vista, to reboot, you need to click on the small arrow next to Shut Down.
Reboot using Task Manager
Another way to restart the operating system can be used when it freezes and becomes unresponsive to any user requests. This can be done using the "Task Manager". It is opened using the key combination Ctrl + alt="Image" + Del. Here the user can view all active tasks and if they find and disable a task that has the "Not responding" status, then it will be possible to close it and get rid of the need to restart. If you still need to restart the operating system, then at the top of the "Task Manager" you can find the item "Shutdown", and in the context menu that appears, click on "Restart".
Radical way
There is another way, but it is advisable to use it only when the system absolutely stops responding and it is impossible to return to a normal state. To do this, on stationary personal computers, a Reset button is provided, which is located directly on the case of the system unit and is usually located next to the power button. Laptops don't have such a button, but replacing it is the same power button that you just need to hold for a few seconds. It is worth noting that in this case all information that has not been saved will be completely lost.
