Step 1
Please note that if you make a mistake in the system registry settings when changing the name of the system drive in the registry editor, or in another way, this can lead to serious problems that can only be corrected by reinstalling the Windows operating system. Therefore, be extremely careful. Before changing the drive letter, make a backup of your system state and information on your computer.
Step 2
Reboot the operating system, log in with administrator rights. Start the registry editor by clicking the "Start" button, select the "Run" option and enter the command Regedt32.exe in the field.

Go to the registry key according to this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM, then go to the MountedDevices section. Open the "Security" menu and select the "Permissions" sub-item. Set the "Administrators" group to full access rights, after you complete all the subsequent steps, the rights will need to be restored.

Exit the program. Run the Regedit.exe program in the same way. Find the setting that matches the drive letter you want to change, for example / DosDevices / D. Right-click the parameter, select the Rename option. Specify a name already with a new drive letter, for example, / DosDevices / С. Next, call the context menu on the / DosDevices / Z parameter, rename it and name it DosDevices / D.
Step 6
Exit Regedit and rerun Regedt32.exe by using the Run command on the main menu. Revert the pre-existing permission options for the Administrators group, usually read-only.
