Playing in windowed mode is often more convenient than playing in full screen mode. For example, if you are chatting with someone along the way and you need the ability to quickly change the active window. Or if you decide to dispel the office melancholy, but at any moment a displeased face of the boss may appear behind your back. Windowed mode is practically necessary even if you decide to play an old game. The resolution of games of the 90s and early 2000s is very low by the standards of modern monitors, so the image quality becomes too poor in full screen mode.
Instructions
Step 1
Most modern games have a built-in windowed mode, which can be set by selecting the appropriate item in the settings. To do this, open the section "Options", "Parameters" or similar in the main menu of the game. Find the item "Windowed mode", "Run the game in windowed mode?" or similar. Check the box, confirm your choice.
Step 2
Sometimes detailed game settings are launched by a separate shortcut, which may be called Game Config, Game Option, or "Settings". It is located in the game folder.
Step 3
If the game menu does not provide for enabling windowed mode, use the ALT + Enter key combination while the game is running. Many programs respond to this command and minimize from full-screen to windowed mode.
Step 4
Windowed mode can be set using the command line of the game shortcut. To do this, create a shortcut to the required game on the desktop or select an existing one. Right-click, select "Properties". Find the line with the full address of the game. For example, C: Program FilesBest GameGame.exe. At the very end, after the closing quotation marks, add a space and add –window. Most games successfully accept this mark and run in a window.
Step 5
The above method in rare cases can have a significant disadvantage. It happens that the game, once having received a command to start in windowed mode, remembers it as the default value, and even after removing the –window mark, it still continues to work in the window. To return the ability to start full screen mode, add the mark –full screen instead of –window.
Step 6
Some games require special commands. You can usually find them on the manufacturer's website in the technical support section. In addition, if the game has a tested official windowed mode, the ways to enable it will certainly also be described on the developers' website.
Step 7
Unfortunately, it is not always possible to launch the game in a window. For example, if the minimum game resolution provided by the developers is equal to the current resolution of your screen. In such cases, no amount of manipulation of the game is likely to lead to a positive result.
