What is a screenshot and what is it eaten with?
When working with a computer, it is often necessary to show to third parties what you now see on your monitor. For example, faced with a malfunction or working with an unfamiliar program, you can ask a specialist for help by sending him a picture with a picture of the problem. Such an image is called a screen shot, or screen.
In order to get a screenshot, you must press the Print Screen (PrtScn) button. Typically, this button is located in the upper right corner of the keyboard, to the right of the F1 - F12 function keys. After pressing the PrtScn key, Windows saves the screen image to the clipboard - a virtual temporary data storage.
In order to view or send the resulting image to someone, you must save it to your computer's hard drive. Any graphic editor will help you with this. The easiest and most affordable option is the Paint program. It is a standard program found on every computer running Windows operating system.
How to take a screenshot
So, after pressing the PrtScn key in the lower left corner of the screen, we find the "Start" menu, then select "Programs" - "Standard" - Paint. In operating systems Windows XP and Windows Vista in the "Edit" menu, select "Paste". In newer versions of Windows (starting with Windows 7), the "Insert" button is located in the top menu of the program. Alternatively, you can press the key combination Ctrl + V - these hotkeys work in all versions of Windows. The image of everything that is on your monitor will be transferred from the clipboard to the working area of the graphics editor.
If necessary, you can edit the resulting image by cutting off all unnecessary. To do this, press the "Select" button, use the mouse to select the area of the picture that you want to save, and press the "Crop" button. Alternatively, you can add text or highlight anything using the Type and Pencil tools. When the image is ready, click "Save" and in the dialog box that appears, specify the folder where the screenshot will be saved. Before saving, you can select the image format - PNG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF or GIF.
Little tricks
To get an image of one active window, press the Alt key simultaneously with the PrtScn key. The image of only one open program is copied to the clipboard.
Optionally, you can insert a picture into a Microsoft Word document. After pressing the PrtScn key, launch the program and select the "Paste" item in the menu, or use the Ctrl + V keyboard shortcut. The picture will appear in the Word file.
Windows 7 has the Scissors tool. With its help, you can get an image of the entire screen or any part of it. To do this, select the Scissors tool from the Start menu, click the New button, and select the area of the image you want to capture.
In Windows 8, after pressing the Win + PrtScn keys at the same time, the screenshot is automatically saved to the Computer Image Library in the Screenshots folder.
