Necessary

  • - avi file;
  • - Subtitle Tool program;
  • - Subtitler filter;
  • - VirtualDub program.

Instructions

Step 1

Subtitle Tool does not require additional steps for installation, during which an icon is created on the desktop to launch it. To start creating subtitles, double-click on the Subtitle Tool.exe file icon. Press the Player button to open the player window and select the avi file in the dialog box to add text.

Step 2

Navigate to the segment of the video where the subtitles should begin using the playback control buttons located in the lower pane of the player window and click on the Insert button. In the Edit tab of the editor, enter the desired text. By default, this inscription will be visible for five seconds, but you can increase or decrease this interval by specifying a different time in the Hide field.

Step 3

To proceed to the creation of the next part of the subtitles, click on the Apply & next button. Enter all other labels in the same way.

Step 4

To save the created subtitles as a separate file, click on the Save button and select the desired extension. If you are going to use the created file as external subtitles that can be loaded into the player when watching a movie, select the srt extension. To embed subtitles in a video using VirtualDub, create an ssa.

Step 5

Clicking on the OK button, enter the name of the saved file. For correct loading into the player, the name of the subtitle file must match the name of the avi file for which this text was created. Save the subtitles to your video folder.

Step 6

If you are going to embed subtitles directly into the movie, start the VirtualDub program and open the avi file in it using the Ctrl + O keys. In the Video menu, enable the Full processing mode option.

Step 7

To work with subtitles, you need the Subtitler filter, which can be found on the VirtualDub sites. Unpack the downloaded archive into the Plugins folder under the VirtualDub folder.

Step 8

Download the filter for connecting subtitles. To do this, use the Filters option of the Video menu and click on the Add button. After opening the list of available filters, select Subtitler from it. If you haven't used this filter before, click on the Load button and select the Subtitler.vdf file.

Step 9

In the Subtitler settings window, click on the button to the right of the file name field, select titles with the ssa extension and use the OK button. You can watch the video with subtitles added to it by clicking on the play button.

Step 10

To save a movie with text, adjust the file compression using the Compression option in the Video and Audio menus. Save the modified file with the Save as avi option of the File menu.
